What protection do I receive upon filing bankruptcy?

The moment your bankruptcy petition is filed with the Court, generally all collection activity against you or any of your property must by law cease. This includes harassing telephone calls, the sending of billing statements, the filing of lawsuits, judgments, executions or levies, repossessions, wage garnishments, utility shutoffs and Sheriff/ Constable sales of any of your property.
