How long does the Bankruptcy take from filing to conclusion?

About two months after your creditors' meeting in Chapter 7, and after all plan payments sent by the trustee are cashed in a Chapter 13, (which is 3-5 years after filing) you will receive a "Discharge Order" from the Court. This legally discharges or wipes out the obligation to pay any money on most obligations listed in your bankruptcy.

Before you can get your discharge, you must complete a financial management instruction course while your bankruptcy case is ongoing. Like the pre-bankruptcy-filing course, this must be provided by an approved agency, can be done by phone, internet or in person, and usually costs under $50.
